void meditation question

When i do void meditation, and if there is for example radio playing in the room, should i focus on the spot on the wall and at the same time focus on radio sound, or should i ignore the radio sound and focus on the spot on the wall? In other words, is it good to know what is happening around me when doing void meditation?

Hold a point of focus, it can be your breath, or your aura while eyes closed or anything, the goal is to keep holding focus and cancel out incoming thoughts.

Void meditation aims to directly experience the “empty” or non‑substantial nature of mind and phenomena. A common entry method is single‑pointed concentration (shamatha‑style), such as resting the gaze on a blank spot on the wall, to stabilize attention and allow mental chatter to dissolve into stillness or voidness. From that stillness, awareness can open into the “void” without grasping at thoughts, sensations, or perceptions.

Trying to hold both a visual point and an external sound (like the radio) creates duality and reinforces conceptual engagement—the opposite of void practice. It keeps attention tethered to sensory input and prevents the mind from settling into emptiness.
