It does affect you, indeed, adds up to your overall knowledge. I, personally, don't see how else this could affect, or what harm can studying do to you.

Do you have a history of being indoctrinated by the enemy? Then if you aren’t fully awake, you can get pulled back into an apathetic and powerless state of being, but it’s based on how secure you’re feeling, how clean you’re soul is and what not. IMO
