Maybe I'll try a different way then. I still wasn't sure about it and I haven't done it yet. Thank you for your input! I thought it was weird that it asked for it. I wish I could just do PayPal still.

Most if not all larger platforms are required to ask for proof of identification due to rules and regulations. There is nothing weird about this. The times of buying crypto with no identification from larger providers are long gone.
And do not hold your funds in the wallet of the exchange, but instead in your own wallet. This does not apply if you decide to send everything you bought right away. Your funds are ultimately not yours in someone else's wallet.
