Past Life Human Soulmate Question

Why would a human that you were married to and had children with in the 6th century, want to remain with you all this time, without a body?  And be a guardian to you.  This person is in between being a human and a God.  So there above what we would consider a normal human, but not a God.

Why would they do that and what are their intentions?  I have no problem with this as I communicate with them daily, but their comes a time when you need to know and it seems awkward to ask them about it as it's probably something I should already know.

What "exactly" are the objectives of being a guardian to someone else as a human or as a demon?
I can find out exactly but I would like to find out right away without having to go through the process of figuring it out exactly.
