Initiation ceremony question?

If I'm still not sure about initiating myself, and haven't done the initiation yet, can I still contact Demons and have there be no reprucussions or anything of the sort? I hoped I would be able to ask some questions and get to know them better so I know exactly what it is I'm getting into.
Will Demons only recognize as friendly those who have gone through the initiation?
