Iliad - Book 1 - Question

Lucius Invictus [NG]

Why do they offer sacrifice in the Iliad to Apollo ? I understand that to quell Apollo's wrath they need to give the Trojan priest back his daughter and give offerings; however, why a "hecatomb"? The gods frown on sacrifice of flesh in their name; perhaps I'm missing symbolism.

Ancient Greek stories should not be taken literally but allegorically.

Thanks for the reply Aquarius.
No probs.
If they were literal we would have many cases of people transforming into cows 8-)

it may be allegories but still love the book though odyseus herculese had an image to hecate when i first started paganism
