calculating planetary positions

There are various programs to calculate the positions of planets in the charts, BUT anybody knows the formula to calculate them on their own? If astro.com is inaccurate, which I learned from a RELIABLE source, I guess I can count on my own mathematical skills - but bfore that, yet I need help in this
