The influence of the prophets, however, comes from divine support and a lordly property. The souls of soothsayers (kuhhān), on the other hand, have the special property of knowing hidden things through demonic powers.

Thus each kind is distinguished by a property that does not exist in the other. Sorcerous souls exist in three ranks, which Ibn Khaldun goes on to explain in detail. This differentiation of souls by their innate properties is fundamental to understanding how magic, talismans, and even miracles operate.

The prophetic soul receives divine light and angelic communication, the sorcerous soul manipulates planetary and elemental forces, and the soothsayer's soul gleans glimpses of the unseen through demonic assistance – all due to the specific nature imprinted upon each type of soul.

How Magical Power is Developed

Ibn Khaldun explains that the special property required for magic exists in the sorcerer only potentially, just like all other human faculties, and it is brought into actuality through spiritual exercise (riyāḍah).

The entire regimen of magical exercise consists of turning toward the celestial spheres, the planets, the higher worlds, and Satan, accompanied by various forms of glorification, worship, submission, and abasement. Because this orientation is directed toward other than God and involves prostration to them, it constitutes disbelief (kufr). For this reason magic is considered an act of disbelief, and disbelief is both its material and its cause. Observed Magical Practices

Then he blows after gathering saliva in his mouth, repeating the utterance of evil speech, and ties knots on a device prepared for that purpose, symbolizing binding and permanence, while taking an oath from the jinn he has associated with God to assist him in that act, seeking strength through resolve.

That structure and those lofty names possess a foul spirit that emerges from him with the blowing, attached to the saliva that issues from his mouth with the breath, and from this descend foul spirits, and there occurs in the bewitched person what the sorcerer intends."

He continues: "We also witnessed among those who practice magic and work with it someone who points to a cloak or a piece of leather and speaks over it secretly, and suddenly it is cut and moves by itself. And he points to the bellies of sheep while they are grazing, and their intestines fall from their bellies to the ground.

We heard that there are those who point to a person, and his heart melts and he falls dead, and when his heart is sought in his viscera it is not found. And he points to a pomegranate, and it opens, and nothing of its seeds is found. Likewise, we heard that among the Sudanese and the people of the land of the Turks there are those who bewitch the clouds so that they rain only on a specified land."

He also witnessed wonders related to amicable numbers, and describes the talismanic practice of the lion and scorpion, and the hexagon of the sun, as reported by practitioners.

The Concept of Mutahabba (Amicable Numbers)

Ibn Khaldun explains that amicable numbers are pairs of numbers – for example, 220 and 284 – where the sum of the proper divisors of each number equals the other. Practitioners of talismans claim that such numbers have an effect in creating affection and harmony between people.

The procedure is to make two images, one under the ascendant of Venus while she is in her own house or exaltation and looking upon the Moon with a friendly and receptive aspect, and to place the second image as the seventh from the first.

On one image they inscribe one of the amicable numbers, and on the other the matching number. They intend the larger number for the beloved, though it is unclear whether "larger" refers to the numerical quantity or the sum of divisors. They claim that this produces such great mutual affection that the two persons can scarcely be separated from one another.

The Eviscerators (Al-Ba'ajin)

In North Africa, Ibn Khaldun writes, there is a class of people who practice magical operations and are known as al-ba'ajin (the eviscerators).

They are called by this name because their most common magical practice is the evisceration (ba'j) of livestock – they point to the bellies of sheep and cause them to burst open.

They do this to terrify the owners into giving them a portion of the flock's produce. They conceal their activities in forests and remote places. Ibn Khaldun witnessed their actions firsthand and was told that they possess a special spiritual orientation and regimen involving blasphemous invocations and associating with the spiritualities of jinn and planets.

They have a manual among them called al-Khaziriyya which they study together. Through this regimen and orientation, they claim to achieve these effects, which are limited to what is called "moving" among inanimate objects, animals, and plants – an expression they use for their art.

Proof of the Soul's Influence on Bodies

Ibn Khaldun reports that the practitioners of these sciences argue for the soul's ability to influence bodies by pointing to its effects on its own body, which occur outside the natural course and its physical causes.

For example, heat can arise from joy and pleasure, and cold from shame and fear – these are effects of the soul on the body without physical intermediaries. Even stronger evidence comes from the power of imagination (tawahhum). A person walking on the edge of a high wall or on a tightrope, if he strongly imagines falling, will indeed fall without doubt. For this reason, many people train themselves to walk on such surfaces until the false imagination disappears and they can walk securely without fear of falling.

Since the soul thus produces effects on its own body without natural physical causes, it is certainly possible for it to produce similar effects on other bodies. The soul's relation to all bodies is identical in terms of this kind of influence, because the soul is not incarnated in the body nor impressed by it. Therefore, it is established that the soul can influence all other bodies as well.

Difference Between Magic and Talismans

According to the practitioners themselves, Ibn Khaldun explains, the distinction between magic (siḥr) and talismans (ṭilasmāt) is as follows.

Magic does not require the sorcerer to have any external assistance; he acts solely through his own psychic power. The maker of talismans, however, calls upon the spiritualities of the planets, the secrets of numbers, and the special properties of existing things, as well as the configurations of the celestial sphere that influence the elemental world, just as the astrologers maintain.

They say that magic is the union of spirit with spirit, whereas the talisman is the union of spirit with body – by which they mean the binding of higher celestial spiritualities to lower physical images. Consequently, the talisman practitioner almost always needs to be an astrologer as well. The magician, in their view, does not acquire his magic through effort but is born with that innate disposition (jibillah) specifically for that type of influence.

Distinction Between Miracles and Magic

Ibn Khaldun presents the distinction between miracles (muʿjizah) and magic as understood by the theologians and philosophers. The theologians hold that the difference lies in the challenge (taḥaddī): a miracle occurs in response to a prophetic claim,

and the miracle's occurrence on a false claim is impossible because the very nature of a miracle is to confirm truthfulness. Therefore, miracles never occur for liars. The philosophers, however, distinguish them by the ends they serve: miracles issue from good and are used for good purposes,

while magic issues from evil and is predominantly used for evil acts such as separating spouses and harming enemies. A miracle is a divine power sent to the soul, so the miracle-worker is supported by the Spirit of God. The magician acts from his own soul and his own psychic power, sometimes with demonic assistance.

Miracles belong to those devoted to good; magic to those devoted to evil. Moreover, the Qur'anic account of Pharaoh's magicians shows that magic cannot stand against the divine support given to prophets – the staff of Moses swallowed what the magicians had fabricated, and their magic vanished as if it had never been. Likewise, the Prophet Muhammad was bewitched until he imagined doing things he had not done, but the revelation of Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas provided protection, and whenever he recited them over the knots of the spell, they would loosen.

The Evil Eye (Al-'Ayn)

The evil eye, Ibn Khaldun explains, is a type of psychic influence that originates from the envier's soul when he admires something – a person, an object, or a condition – that he perceives with his eye, and he becomes excessive in his admiration.

From this admiration arises an envy that seeks to remove that thing from the one who possesses it, and this desire produces a destructive effect. This affliction by the evil eye is an innate, natural disposition (jibillah fiṭriyyah); it occurs spontaneously and does not depend on the choice of the person who possesses it, nor is it acquired through effort.

For this reason, the jurists distinguish between the sorcerer and the one who kills by the evil eye. The sorcerer or miracle-worker is executed, but the one who kills by the evil eye is not executed, because the evil eye is not something he intends or can choose to avoid; it is compelled to issue from him. God alone knows what is hidden within.

Difference Between Talisman Practitioners and Letter Practitioners

Ibn Khaldun draws a careful distinction between those who work with talismans (ṭilasmāt) and those who work with the secrets of letters (simiyā'). The talisman practitioners seek to attract the spiritualities of the celestial spheres and bind them to physical images or numerical proportions.

Their effect is achieved by establishing a connection between higher spiritual powers and lower physical bodies – hence they describe their science as "spirit in body." Their method requires a modest amount of spiritual exercise to give the soul power over planetary spiritualities, and their work relies on natural, scientific principles and ordered laws.

The letter practitioners, on the other hand, claim to act through what they have obtained by spiritual striving (mujāhadah) and unveiling (kashf) – divine light and lordly support. For them, nature submits willingly without resistance, and they have no need for planetary powers.

However, if a letter practitioner lacks genuine mystical unveiling and merely imitates the appropriate relationships between names, letters, and planets from books such as al-Buni's Annamat, then his work is actually no different from that of the talisman practitioner, and indeed the talisman practitioner is more reliable because he follows verifiable natural principles.

The true letter practitioner who possesses unveiling is superior, but one who lacks it and only follows tradition is weaker. Furthermore, talisman practitioners may also employ invocations and words appropriate to planets, and letter practitioners may assign specific planetary times to divine names, so the two methods can overlap, but their foundational principles remain distinct.

On top of that they add a loophole, that basically the Prophet can visit one in dream and tell him a new islamic insight, and this considered valid.

So one can tell me what i am doing is haram, and i tell him no, this is actually halal and was told that by prophet. In dream. And thats secret , not for everyone. Just for the ones who are deeper in the truth.

Thats why many Sufi did engage in weird things, some allegedly engaged in Zoophilia, since they thought there is no body but Allah, and we are all created from earth, so its just earth touching earth not really Zoophilia. Some was homosexuals, and more.

But, the disciples are many times guided : if you see your Guru having sex outside of marriage. Say it was my eye that had sex outside of marriage not the Guru.

So in Sufism one is teached to not ask a lot. And trust that the guru knows what he is doing.

this is what i meant by alignement with islam:

One says Umayyad are pagans => he is Zevist => he does not approve of unethical islamic acts. => he has image that Umayyad are pagans so they are all good. At that moment he is praising the same things he hates about islam, since those same Umayyad are the ones who later enforced islam. But he does not know it.

I have just come across this part of your post. I am not sure how I missed it yesterday.

This is a very deep and accurate point.

I do respect those kind of people, the other question is if Gods can guide them while those people are still in the other religion, or if the Gods always wait for one to quit the religion.

There have indeed been accounts of people who, while still practicing another religion specifically the good parts of that religion, such as avoiding drugs, being grateful to the Divine, and so forth were already being guided by a God, even without full awareness of the occult. Many sense this guidance, many receive visions, and some even see the Gods.

These appear to be good-hearted individuals, people who have endured hardship or oppression. It is said that out of compassion, a God may choose such a person, guard them, and offer guidance from within the very framework of their existing faith, without necessarily waiting for them to renounce that religion.

Sometimes it is said that such people have a Guardian God since birth because they come from a lineage that includes a Priest, or because the Gods are already guiding one or both of the parents, and they choose to guard the person.

Some also claim that if a parent does rituals [ Usually honoring the God through playing him music and attribution of Good qualities and High Ethics to the Gods.. ] while his children nearby or visit a shrine with his children, this may cause the Gods to choose on their own, to Guard the children, so a God choose to Guard the children since young age. Thus having a Guardian God without even knowing about the occult.

Pointing to the fact that there are many reasons one can have a Guardian God early in life even when sometimes he is still stuck in another religion.

This information comes not from written sources but from oral tradition. It is also said that this occurs more frequently with certain Gods than with others.

According to the same oral traditions, some of these Gods are associated with specific types of personalities.

For example, Goddess Hera is said to be connected to people who cry often, are deeply compassionate, constantly face opposition, and tend to overgive—spiritually or materially—to everyone they meet, leaving a positive impact on all. Yet such people are often doomed themselves. They would benefit from learning to guard their energy, and when that energy is redirected and properly harnessed, they become potent.

Staying with this example, it is believed that if a person goes near a river or an ocean unintentionally, or even within their own home and begins to cry because they have been wronged (I am not suggesting that performing such an act will make Hera one's guardian; this happens spontaneously, not by a persons choice.

It is even said that some are chosen by Goddess Hera from the moment of their birth. I do not fully understand why such individuals are chosen, especially at birth it sounds extraordinary that Goddess Hera would select someone on the very day of their birth).

And in opposite of many Goddesses, she is not into rituals with music with uplifting beats offered to her, even her musics have slow rythm, and a kind of serious vibe instead of playful one,

Still some refer to her as playful sometimes, but the dominant vibe is the mature serious one, with deep concern about the current state of the world. And in seriousness she exceeds all Goddesses to the point that it is said, with some of her Aspects, she is fierce even with her children ( in defending them and also in correcting them. They even say people who are Guarded by certain Aspects of Goddess Hera, cannot be attacked with Black Magic and cannot have enemy entities attached to them. ], and she is very serious. With other Aspects, she is overly and very very extremely kind and always forgive her children, they just need to realise they made mistake.

Another Goddess (I do not know her equivalent name in Zevism) is said to be connected to people who laugh frequently. These individuals can walk into a room of friends or family and swiftly elevate the mood, often bringing about laughter.

Another example is God Zeus. He is said to choose people of high spiritual alignment individuals of great purity who are naturally repulsed by drugs and similar aspects of life, finding them distasteful. And not into over indulgence in life pleasures in a way that contradicts the Dharma.

Such people are deeply focused on spiritual growth, love charity, and so forth. Those i think are talked about as the most elevated initiates spiritually, and as people, the most wonderful people one can meet.

Therefore, if a person within this culture claims that his guardian God is Zeus, yet he loves drugs, many would assume he is not genuinely Guarded by Zeus, as it is believed that there is always a link between specific Gods and specific personality types and actions.

Some go so far as to say that a person guarded by Goddess Hera, should he decide to perform an animal sacrifice for her, would no longer perceive her or would cease to perceive her for a time.

Furthermore, it is said that if one attempts to summon a God through an expensive setup, an elaborate ceremony born of ego and ostentation, the God generally does not appear.

In contrast, a person in his own home with only a single candle lit and pure intention such people are generally believed to be closer to the Gods than those who brag, take pictures and videos, and seek to satisfy the ego through claiming a connection to a God or being guarded by one.

This is not to say that well-prepared setups are bad, only that intention is the primary component.

Greek-Berber Beliefs:

The well-known connections between the ancient Berbers and the ancient Greeks were centered in Cyrenaica, where the Greeks had established colonies. The Greeks influenced the eastern Berber pantheon,

but they were also influenced by Berber culture and beliefs. Generally, the Libyan-Greek relationship knew two distinct periods. In the first, the Greeks had peaceful relations with the Libyans; later, wars broke out between them. These social dynamics were mirrored in their beliefs.

Before the Battle of Irassa (570 BC)

The first notable sign of Libyan influence on Cyrenaican-Greek beliefs is the name Cyrenaica itself.

Originally, it was the name of a legendary Berber warrior woman known as Cyre. According to the myth, Cyre was a courageous lion-hunting woman who gave her name to the city. The Greek settlers adopted her as their protector alongside their own god Apollo.

The Greeks of Cyrenaica also adopted some Berber customs and intermarried with Berber women. Herodotus (Book IV, 120) reported that the Libyans taught the Greeks how to yoke four horses to a chariot.

The Cyrenaican Greeks built temples for the Libyan god Amon instead of their own Zeus, later identifying their supreme god with the Libyan Amon.

Some continued worshipping Amon himself. His cult became so widespread among the Greeks that Alexander the Great decided to be declared the son of Zeus in the Siwan temple by the Libyan priests of Amon.

Ancient historians mentioned that several Greek deities were of Libyan origin.

Athena, daughter of Zeus, was considered by some (including Herodotus) to be Libyan.

They stated that she was originally honored by the Berbers around Lake Tritonis, where, according to Libyan legend, she was born from the god Poseidon and the lake.

Herodotus wrote that the aegis and the clothes of Athena were typical for Libyan women.

Herodotus also stated that Poseidon was adopted from the Libyans by the Greeks.

He emphasized that no other people worshipped Poseidon from early times except the Libyans, who spread his cult.

Other Greek deities were linked to Libya. The goddess Lamia was believed to have originated there, as were Medusa and the Gorgons.

The Greeks also seem to have encountered the god Triton in Libya, and they may have believed that the Garden of the Hesperides was located in modern Morocco (some scholars place it in Tangier, where the giant Antaios lived).

The Hesperides were thought to be the daughters of Atlas, a god associated with the Atlas Mountains by Herodotus. The Atlas mountain range was itself worshipped by the Berbers.

After the Battle of Irassa

The harmony between Greeks and Libyans began to break during the time of Battus II. He secretly invited other Greek groups to Libya, which the Libyans saw as a danger that had to be stopped.

The Berbers began fighting the Greeks, sometimes in alliance with the Egyptians, other times with the Carthaginians. Nevertheless, the Greeks were victorious.

Some historians believe the myth of Antaeus reflects those wars between Libyans and Greeks.

The legend says he was the undefeatable protector of the Libyans, son of Poseidon and Gaia, and husband of the Berber goddess Tinjis. ( from Tinjis comes current Tangier city in Morocco name)

He guarded Berber lands until he was slain by the Greek hero Heracles, who then married Tingis and fathered a son, Sufax (a Berber-Greek hybrid).

Some Libyan kings, like Juba I, claimed descent from Sufax. While some sources described Antaeus as king of Irassa, Plutarch reported that the Libyans buried him in Tangier.

In Greek iconography, Antaeus was clearly distinguished from Greek figures – he was depicted with long hair and beard, typical of the eastern Libyans.

Roman-Berber Beliefs

The Romans first allied with the Numidians ( I.E. berbers )against Carthage, defeating it in 146 BCE. But later, they annexed Numidia into the Roman Empire.

Before Romanization

The Berbers fought against the Romans and Byzantines.

They had war deities such as Gurzil and Ifri. The war goddess Ifri (or Ifru) was considered the protector of her worshippers, depicted on Berber coins, and seems to have been an influential goddess in North Africa.

Pliny the Elder mentioned that nobody in Africa decided to do anything without first invoking Africa (the Latin name for Ifri). This goddess appeared in various forms on Numidian coins from the first century BCE. When the Romans conquered Northwest Africa, she appeared on coins of Roman states in the region.

Gurzil was a bull-shaped war god, identified with the son of Ammon. The Berbers took his image into battle against the Romans. Corippus mentioned that the Laguatan (or Luwata) chief, Jarna, carried his god Gurzil into battle against the Byzantines. Jarna was a Moorish ruler and a high priest of Gurzil.

After the Moors were defeated, he fled with the sacred image but was caught and killed, and the image destroyed. Among the ruins of Ghirza in Libya stands a temple that may have been dedicated to Gurzil, and the town’s name itself might be related to his.

Roman Influence

When Northwest Africa was annexed to the Roman Empire, the Berbers began worshipping Roman deities like Jupiter, known to them as Mastiman. Jupiter was also identified with the Libyan Ammon.

Another feared god was Saturn. He communicated with believers in dreams, and Northwestern Africans venerated him with human sacrifices, as mentioned by Tertullian, who wrote that children were openly sacrificed to Saturn in Africa. Historians believe this cult was closer to that of Baal-Hammon than to the Roman Saturn. ( this does not mean Zevism align with sacrifice, this is just reporting what is said, feel free to cut this part if its too sensitive)

When a native Libyan, Septimius Severus, became emperor, the cult of Tanit was introduced to Rome.

Selected Berber Deities

Agurzil – Berber god of war, symbolized by a bull’s head. He was carried into battle by Queen Dihya (al-Kahina) against the Muslim armies.

Achaman – Supreme god of the Guanches (indigenous people of Tenerife, related to North Africans). The name means "the skies" (the celestial vault). Achamán is omnipotent and eternal, creator of land, water, fire, and air. He lives in the heights and sometimes descends to mountain summits to contemplate his creations.

Ayur – Moon god. The name Ayyur literally means "the moon" and is also used for "month" and as a masculine name. In the fifth century BCE, Herodotus wrote that the Berbers sacrificed to the moon and the sun. Ibn Khaldoun stated that Berbers continued idolizing the moon, the sun, and other celestial bodies until the fourteenth century CE.

Antaeus – In Greek mythology, a giant, son of Poseidon and Gaia, husband of Tinjis. Sixth-century BCE Greek colonists located him in the Libyan desert interior. He challenged passers-by to wrestling matches, killed them, and collected their skulls to build a temple to his father. He was invincible as long as he touched the ground (his mother Earth), but once lifted into the air he became weak. Heracles discovered this secret, lifted him up, and crushed him in a bear hug. The story has been used as a symbol of spiritual strength drawn from contact with the earth. The struggle between Antaeus and Heracles is a favorite subject in ancient and Renaissance sculpture.

The location of Antaeus was flexible in longitude. When the Roman commander Quintus Sertorius crossed from Hispania to North Africa, residents of Tingis (Tangier) told him the giant’s remains would be found in a certain tumulus. Digging it open, his men found giant bones. Sertorius closed the site, made offerings, and helped magnify the tomb’s reputation.

In Book IV of Lucan’s Pharsalia, a Libyan citizen tells the story of Hercules’ victory over Antaeus to the Roman Curio. Later, King Juba II of Numidia (died 23 BCE), husband of Cleopatra’s daughter, claimed descent from a liaison of Hercules with "Tinga," the consort of Antaeus. In the Berber language, Antaeus is supposedly known as Anti (distinct from the Egyptian figure Anti, transliterated as "Antaeus" by the Greeks).

Achuguayo – Moon god in Guanche religion (Tenerife), the duality of Magec (sun god). He was called "Father of the times" because he regulated the seasons.

Achuhucanac – Rain god in Guanche religion (Tenerife), identified with the supreme god Achamán. His name in Guanche means "that which is in the rain."

Overview of Berber (Amazigh) Beliefs

Berber or Amazigh beliefs are the indigenous beliefs of the Berber people of North Africa (distinct from ancient Egyptians or Nubians). These beliefs were influenced primarily by their Egyptian neighbors, as well as by Phoenicians, Jews, Greeks, and Romans. In turn, Berbers also influenced those cultures.

Solar and Lunar Worship

The moon is called Ayyur in the Berber language, a name shared with the Berber moon god. Herodotus mentioned that the ancient Berbers (whom he called Libyans) worshipped the moon and sun, sacrificing to them. He wrote: "They begin with the ear of the victim, which they cut off and throw over their house... They sacrifice to the Sun and Moon, but not to any other god. This worship is common to all the Libyans."

Cicero (105–43 BCE) reported the same cult in On the Republic (Scipio’s Dream). Several Latin inscriptions dedicated to the sun-god have been found in Northwest Africa, for example in Souk Ahras (Tagaste, Algeria), reading Solo Deo Invicto. Samuel the Confessor appears to have suffered at the hands of sun-worshipping Berbers who tried to force him to worship the sun. Among the Awelimmiden Tuareg, the name Amanai means "God." There are interesting things, i do not know how safe is it to try. Especially that many times the technique is a bit commanding the demon.
